Phone VPN Setup: The Two-Minute Version That Actually Works

Setting up a VPN on your phone sounds like one of those chores that should involve network settings, strange acronyms, and a support article with 19 screenshots.

It does not have to. If your VPN uses WireGuard, the phone setup is usually simple: install the WireGuard app, scan a QR code or import a config file, tap connect, then check that your IP address changed.

That is the whole job. The important part is knowing what each step is doing, so you do not get stuck wondering whether the VPN is actually on.

What you need before you start

You need three things: a VPN account, the WireGuard app, and a tunnel configuration from your VPN provider.
